The first Scottish Doctor Who praises Peter Capaldi’s debut as the Time Lord   Leave a comment

The first Scottish Doctor Who says he is thrilled by Peter Capaldi’s debut in the role.

Capaldi’s first full show as the 12th Time Lord was watched by 7.3million viewers – including Dunoon-born Sylvester McCoy.

Speaking while meeting fans at the Collectormania event in the Braehead arena near Glasgow, the seventh Doctor said: “I really enjoyed watching it.

“Peter was great – you can tell he’s an accomplished actor and he really enjoyed doing it.

“I laughed when the Doctor proclaimed himself to be Scottish. I don’t think we’d ever have got away with that in my time.

“I loved his line ‘I’m Scottish. I can complain about things.’ I thought that was brilliant.”

Sylvester took over the role from Colin Baker in 1987 and stayed for three series until the show was cancelled in 1989, returning to hand over to eighth Doctor Paul McGann in a 1996 TV movie.

The actor, who went on to appear in The Hobbit films, would love to return for an episode and said his successor didn’t need any guidance about how to perform his new role.

He added: “I wouldn’t give Peter any advice on how to play it. The best thing I can tell him is to learn the lines and avoid bumping into the monsters.”

David Tennant bumps into veteran Time Lord Sylvester McCoy as he attends BBC Audio Awards   Leave a comment

Doctor Who’s who? David Tennant bumps into fellow former Time Lord Sylvester McCoy as he attends BBC Audio Awards

Onscreen they battled to rid the universe of Daleks in a race against time, albeit years apart.

And while the time travel continues with a new doctor in the helm, for two of the actors who played him it seems there’s no time like the present.

Former Doctor Who star David Tennant and veteran actor Sylvester McCoy posed up together at the BBC Audio awards in London on Sunday night.

David, 41, who was hosting the event for the second year running looked dapper in a smart stripey suit and floral tie.

Meanwhile fellow Scot Sylvester looked every inch the eccentric old actor in an emerald green shirt and draping scarf.

The actors seemed delighted to see each other and smiled fondly for the camera.

Taking place at the BBC’s iconic Broadcasting House, the annual event is a celebration of the best acting and writing talent in the world of audio both in radio and online.
