‘Perfect’ Peter Capaldi to play Time Lord for ‘years’ to come   Leave a comment

Peter Capaldi has signed up for another series of Doctor Who AND a Christmas Special after being hailed the ‘perfect’ Time Lord by BBC bosses.

Although Capaldi’s debut episode Deep Breath doesn’t air until August 23, producers are convinced the 56-year-old Scot is going to be a hit with Whovians.

A source said: ‘Peter is the perfect Doctor. He’s a life-long fan of the show and a great actor.

‘He wanted to do another series and the BBC wanted him back.

‘Even before the premiere, no one at the BBC was in any doubt that Peter was going to be brilliantly received,’ the insider continued.

‘It’s hoped that he’ll play the role for years.’

And although the Thick Of It star is the joint oldest actor to play the Doctor (William Hartnell was also 56 when he started out on Doctor Who in 1963), Peter is adamant his age won’t prevent him from doing his own stunts.

He explained: ‘I’ve just been filming a sequence in which I have to be suspended on wires 20ft in the air for a whole day.

‘It was fantastic — like being nine years old! I was the Doctor and Superman.

‘Where else is a man of my age going to be attached to wires and flung around a room?’

‘I think too much is made of my age — but who cares? Doctor Who is over 2,000 years old,’ he added to The Sun.
