Dr Who has come to the rescue of one of his assistants yet again – but in real life rather than on the TV screen.
Former companion to the Doctor, Janet Fielding, was diagnosed with cancer and wanted help to keep her youth charity, Ramsgate-based Motorhouse, up and running.
And former Doctor Peter Davison is to hold a charity event, where fans can meet stars of the hit show, this weekend.
He will be joined by fellow TV timelords David Tennant, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann, as well as Ms Fielding, who played the part of air stewardess Tegan on the show from 1981-84.
The couple had kept in contact since she left the programme and started working for the charity which is saving a derelict building and putting it into use as a venue for young people to learn about business.
“I went to see her just after the diagnosis and she seemed very worried about the fate of the project,” said Mr Davison. “I thought a fundraiser would help keep her spirits up.”
All 300 tickets for the event at the Copthorne Hotel, Slough, sold within 24 hours. It takes place on Saturday (January 19).
